Nigerian woman who died in UAE tests negative to Ebola – Embassy Official

Ebola new A 35-year-old Nigerian woman who died in Abu Dhabi on Aug. 15 after showing possible symptoms of Ebola has tested negative to the virus. A top official of Nigerian Embassy in United Arab Emirates (UAE), who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja. According to the official, the local health authorities have already informed the mission of their findings. On Sunday, a Nigerian woman who was travelling to India from Lagos via Abu Dhabi for cancer treatment, died in the Emirati capital. It was reported that the health of the patient, who was travelling with her husband, deteriorated while on transit and she died when medics tried to resuscitate her.

Operatives of  the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, Lagos have smashed a syndicate that specialize in selling human parts, Vanguard reports.

The 3 suspects whose names were given as Mustapha Muritala, Sunday Oluyeba and Adenike Olanrewaju, were arrested at the Ojumerin area of Sagamu, Ogun State following a tip off. Recovered from the suspects were two human skulls suspected to have been procured from a graveyard.

When interrogated, one of the suspects, 42 year old Herbalist Mustapha Murtala, said he ventured into the business two years ago following an offer of N30,000 for a human skull. Continue...

Lagos State Health Commissioner Confirms Five New Suspected Ebola Cases

Today, Lagos State Health Commissioner, Jide Idris, disclosed that five new Ebola cases have been suspected in the state. These new cases bring the figure up to eight suspected cases.

"We have recorded eight suspected cases, five of which were brought in yesterday," the commissioner announced. "We have 12 confirmed cases on the whole. Five have died and five have been discharged," he said.

A 37-year-old mother of three, Ezeh Ifeoma Maureen (pictured above), has been arrested with substances suspected to be cannabis by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Bush meat sellers protest low patronage

SCORES of bush meat  sellers, yesterday, marched to Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s office at the Oyo State Secretariat, Ibadan, complaining of low patronage due to the outbreak of Ebola disease.
The women under the aegis of Bushmeat Sellers Association lamented that since the announcement that the deadly disease could be caused by eating bush meat, spell had been cast on their sales.
Speaking on behalf of the association, Alhaja Risikat Odeyemi, Iyalode, Bushmeat Association, Oyo State, said it was strange that bush meat which had hitherto been taken as a special delicacy should now be seen as a poison.

Ebola: Fiancé of late nurse, Obi Ejelonu, admitted to hospital with suspected case

According to Sahara Reporters, the fiancé of Obi Ejelonu, the nurse who died of the Ebola virus after being infected by Patrick Sawyer, is suspected to have contracted the Ebola virus from his late fiance.

The suspected patient, whose name was given simply as "Dennis", allegedly suffered from a high fever three days ago but said he had recovered, SR reports. He's since been admitted in the hospital. A new blood test has been ordered, with results expected as soon as tomorrow.

Another Liberian with Ebola Found in Lagos

Dr Akindele Akintayo revealed this morning on a TV programme that another Liberian have also been detected with the deadly Ebola virus in Nigeria.
Dr. Akintayo said on the programme that the Liberian has been kept at the IDH in Lagos and could not confirm if the new case had a contact with late Mr Sawyer or not. More on this later…

Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the Senior Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist who was one of the doctors who attended to Patrick Sawyer at First Consultant Hospital has died from the Ebola virus which she contracted from Sawyer.
Dr. Ameyo died this afternoon Tuesday August 19th at the isolation unit of the Mainland Hospital in Lagos where she’d been quarantined. She died a hero because she was the doctor who refused to let Patrick Sawyer, the man who brought the Ebola virus to Nigeria, leave the First Consultant Hospital in Obalende, Lagos, when he attempted to leave. She saved many lives by doing this. Her death is so heartbreaking.
She’s survived by a son and her husband. May her beautiful soul rest in peace…Amen.

The traveller had shown signs that may be consistent with the Ebola virus infection; however Haad stated that her existing medical condition provided an adequate medical explanation for her death: “Full safety and precautionary measures have been taken by the medical staff who attended the patient according to the World Health Organisation standards for dealing with suspected cases of infectious diseases. In addition, all contacts of the patient (her husband and the 5 medics who took care of her on site) are in isolation pending the result of Ebola testing on the patient. They are all well with no symptoms.”

The Ministry of Health assures the public that there is no risk to the community, to fellow passengers on the plane from Nigeria and those in the airport.
