The Emir of Gwoza in Borno state on the night of Monday, August 11, 2014 was saved from the merciless grasp as a heavy downpour aided an escape from the mountainous region. The Emir, alongside other residents had been “trapped” on the mountains of Gwoza as that was the only safe haven from the insurgents who overran the town on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, killing numerous people and torching virtually all buildings in the area, including police stations.
Amongst those who escaped as a result of the downpour includes Muhammed Timta, the Emir of Gwoza, a district head in the town, Hakimi Ibrahim and several residents.
