A 13-year-old boy, Friday, discovered a massive bomb placed in a car near a Jumuat Mosque in Kano and promptly alerted the police. The police spokesperson in Kano, Magaji Majiya, informed PREMIUM TIMES on Friday that the boy became suspicious after noticing the abandoned car looking “heavy with loads.” “The bomb targeting worshippers was placed inside a Toyota Tercel car near a Mosque in Sauna Pfanuga area of Nasarawa Local Government, Kano metropolis,” Mr. Majiya said. He also said after the boy discovered the bomb he alerted the police nearby and the anti-bomb squad were invited. “They successfully defused the bomb and site and the car had been taken to Police Headquarters for further investigations and analysis,” he said. The police spokesperson said no one has been arrested in connection with the incident. A bomb explosion, which claimed eight lives, took place on Monday at the School of Hygiene in Kano. The Police said they have arrested a suspect in connection with the school bombing. No group has claimed responsibility for any of the incidents although the insurgent Boko Haram is considered

BREAKING NEWS: Bomb Explosion kills 10 in Bauchi

An explosion targeting a brothel in Bauchi metropolis of Bauchi State has claimed 10 lives while 14 others sustained injuries, the spokesperson of the police in the state, Haruna Mohammed, has said. Mr. Mohammed said the blast took place at about 9:50 p.m at a brothel at Bayangari area and the injured were taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for treatment. He said all the ten corpses were evacuated to the Mortuary. “The entire surrounding has been cordoned and scene secure. No arrest has been made yet and investigation has commenced to ascertain the cause” Mr. Mohammed said in a statement late Friday evening. No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion believed to have been carried out by the Boko Haram.

A ritualists’ den allegedly owned by a pastor, was uncovered at Ogolonto area of Ikorodu Lagos yesterday. Eight victims who were reportedly abducted from different regions of the country were rescued from the den according to Vanguard. The den, which is said to be owned by a Pastor named Ernest Nwankwo General Overseer of Holy Family Ministry a.k.a House of Mercy, is located at 7, Oshodi Street, behind the church. According to reports, the lair was uncovered following a foiled attempt by a woman to take one of her victims, a seven year‑old boy, to the location. The woman, identified as Rosemary Chukwu, allegedly kidnapped the primary school pupil, Emmanuel Emeka, on his way to fetch water from a public well one morning. Chukwu was alleged to have kept the boy inside her toilet and conducted a prayer session with her four children, apparently to prevent her co‑tenants from hearing the abducted boy’s cries for help. Emeka’s mother, who lives four buildings away from Chukwu, became agitated when her son did not return when he was supposed to. She was said to have raised an alarm which caused residents to search for her son in the neighbourhood. Chukwu was said to have been sighted with a suitcase on her head, accompanied by her children. It was then discovered that the little boy was in the suitcase “half dead.” Upon interrogation by a mob who attempted to lynch her, she reportedly confessed that Nwankwo instructed her to kidnap the boy. Based on information the woman gave to the mob, they were able to find the den. An undisclosed number of people bound in chains were found in the building. The victims were said to have recounted how they were kidnapped from Anambra, Bayelsa, Ogun and Oyo states at different times. One of them reportedly revealed that she was kidnapped 11 years ag along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway while returning from a vigil. Another victim said he had been kept prisoner for two years. In total, eight people were rescued. The case is said to be under investigation.

A six-year-old boy, Emmanuel Emeka, who was rescued from a suspected kidnapper on Wednesday in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, has recounted how he was lured, seized and tied up by his abductor. Emmanuel said the suspect, identified as Mama Ifunaya, who was a neighbour, lured him into her room, strangled him, covered his mouth with clothes before tying him up with rope to prevent him from screaming. "I wanted to draw water and take my bath before going to school when she told me to come. I went because I know her; she is Mama Ifunnaya. But when I got to her side, she threw me inside her room… she closed her net. She then tied me and put me inside a box. "I wanted to shout, but I could not shout properly. I heard my mummy's voice when she was looking for me, but I could not shout. She (pointing to the suspect) is a wicked person."The victim was kidnapped at the Ologede, Majidun, Ikorodu area. He was said to have been rescued by a mob, which equally beat up the suspect to a pulp. The mother of four was said to have led the mob to a church, saying a prophet sent her to bring the boy. Punch correspondent reported that the mob forced their way into a house near the church, but discovered that the prophet had fled. They were said to have found in the house photographs of previously missing people, mats and calabashes containing unknown substances, including a mentally-challenged man. The victim's mother, Mrs. Gloria Emeka, who explained that she never suspected her neighbour because while she was searching for her child, the suspect was in her room with her children praying and shouting "holy ghost fire." She said she later discovered it was a ploy to prevent her from hearing Emmanuel's screams."Later, we saw her leaving the house with a box on her head. She said she was travelling. It was my landlady that challenged her why she could go out when everybody was busy searching for Emmanuel. "The landlady asked her to stop, but she suddenly increased her pace and started running. That was how the landlady shouted, 'kidnapper, kidnapper', and people ran after her." The box was said to have fallen, and when it was opened, the missing boy was found in it.

Wives of Niger top politicians arrested for trafficking Nigerian babies

According to reports from PM news, the babies were thought to have arrived in Niger from Nigeria via Benin.

“The trafficking network is used primarily by couples who are unable to have children,” a source close to the case told AFP. A number of civil servants and health workers were also detained. Some suspects were referred to the public prosecutor on Wednesday, the police source said. “Baby factories” — private clinics where young girls sell their newborns to couples who are unable to conceive — are regularly dismantled in Nigeria. Cases in which mothers give up babies born from rape have been reported at such clinics, but young women facing unwanted pregnancies are more common, according to the Nigerian authorities. The newborns are sold for several thousand euros — with boys fetching more than girls. The mothers receive around 150 euros ($200). Human trafficking is the third most common crime in Nigeria, behind fraud and drug trafficking, according to the United Nations.

A 22-year-old Nigerian man resident in the US has been found guilty of raping a bedridden 92-year-old woman. Samuel Onyenweaku, a former aide at the Amber Park Nursing Home in Cincinnati, is said to have taken advantage of the ill woman who could no longer communicate. Onyenweaku was found out when a nursing supervisor tried to enter the victim’s room but found it locked. He is facing up to 20yrs in jail. Daily Mail reports: A prosecutor says the woman died in February from an unrelated condition. A nursing supervisor testified against the young man, saying that she had tried to enter the resident’s room, but the door was locked. When she finally opened it, she says she found the resident naked from the chest down. Her night gown had been pushed up to her breasts. A man’s pants, underwear and shoes were lying under the bed. The supervisor then tried to enter the woman’s private bathroom, but that door was also locked. She got in with a master key and found Onyenweaku. The victim was a widow with no children. A former school teacher in Kentucky, she was bed-ridden and could not communicate. ‘This is terrible. She did know what was happening,’ said Assistant Prosecutor Anita Vizedom. ‘This was the end of her life.’ The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Onyenweaku was convicted of rape, felonious assault and patient abuse on Monday. He could face 20 years in prison when he’s sentenced on July 28.

UPDATE ON THE ABUJA BOMBING: Emab Plaza Attack, Dead Bomber Was Conveying Another Explosive

More explosives were seized from 2 suspects believed to have coordinated the bombing of Emab Shopping Plaza in Wuse, Abuja on Wednesday 25th June 2014, the defence headquarters has said. Bystanders at the scene of the explosion alerted soldiers on patrol to the two suspects who were speeding off on a power bike. The soldiers swung into action engaging the escaping suspects and fatally wounding one of them who fell with his bag as the motorbike rider still made efforts to escape through the crowd. The bag recovered from the suspect was later confirmed to contain a package of IED and other accessories including stop clock, mobile phones and other materials used for setting off explosives. The suspect who was shot by the soldiers finally died in the hospital as he defiantly yelled “people will die! people will die!!”. After the incident, 21 persons were confirmed dead while the wounded victims are receiving treatment in various hospitals. Two other suspects also arrested at the scene of the explosion are currently being interrogated.

Saturday June 7, 2014, will remain the happiest day in the life of Mercy James. Reason? That was the day she miraculously gave birth to a baby girl after 14 years of being pregnant. If the mother had delivered at the expected time the child would have been a teenager by now and possibly in secondary school at the JSS 3 level. Mercy, a single parent, said of her ordeal during the 14 years she was pregnant but could not give birth: “When I first took in, I knew that I was pregnant with signs and test that confirmed that I was. Four months later, I went to hospital for another test, the result showed that I wasn’t pregnant, but had fibroid. Subsequently, I began to experience bleeding, at least once a day. Sometimes, my tummy would protrude in the semblance of pregnancy. I went to different hospitals, and I kept on receiving the same result that nothing was wrong with me. But deep down inside , I knew that all was not well with me. Churches and native doctors “So I was taken aback when a midwife told me I was pregnant. But considering the test which showed I had fibroid, I was angry with the midwife for giving me what I felt was a false prophecy of hope. Thereafter, I started going from one church to another and from one native doctor to the other. The results that I got from them all remained the same. I became more feeble and confused that I prayed for death to come. “I went again to the midwife two years after and complained to her about the pains that I was going through, she told me again that it was not fibroid but pregnancy; she advised me to be more prayerful so that God will deliver me from the hands of the devil. I kept on praying and at the same time asking myself that if truly I’m pregnant, why is it that the baby was not kicking? “I bought many concoctions that they said could cure fibroid and drank them. I even drank 12 bottles of a local cleanser but to no avail. This went on for years. Then God took pity on me and decided to wipe my tears. On the day I gave birth to my baby girl, I initially thought that worms were trying to come out of my body not knowing that it was a baby. This was what I told the midwife when we came to her. But after examining me she told me to push. I ignored her. I became unconscious for about 15 minutes and when I regained consciousness, I heard the cry of a baby. I was surprised and confused seeing my baby. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Hmm,I thank God for my life and that of my baby Miracle. I named her Miracle because she is truly a miraculous child”. Miraculous child The midwife at the Celestial Church of Christ, Kadoso Parish, Ajegunle where Mercy gave birth confirmed the development, especially the role she played. The woman who simply gave her name as Mrs Ajetima informed thus: “She was pregnant for 14 years and was unable to give birth during this period. Then on Saturday around 6:30am I saw two persons carrying her to this place. When she came inside, I laid her down and asked one of my daughters to examine her, after the examination, I found out that it was a baby that was about coming out and not worms. I asked her to push and she refused. My daughter gave her a hard slap on her laps since she refused to push. Behold a baby with placenta came out! I started shouting, calling on people to come and see for themselves that Mercy was truly pregnant, because if not, people will start to say that that Celestial woman has given Mercy a baby. Within a twinkle of an eye, the whole place was filled with people. God is wonderful”. Also affirming the happy development, Mercy’s closest friend, Odunayo Odeyemi had this to say: “I have known mercy for over nine years now. I met her with the pregnancy . In fact, she did not know that she was pregnant. I followed her to many places but her problems kept on increasing. Merely looking at Mercy then before she gave birth, you will notice that she wasn’t okay. I kept advising her to have faith in God because I had experienced the same thing. I was pregnant for three years and three months and God delivered me. “Mercy came to me on that fateful day around 4am begging me to give her a pain reliever, that she was having pains all over her body. I dressed up and took her to a man that sells drugs. After taking the drug, on our way home, she started having serious pains. I called her brother and we both took her to the midwife. Hours later, she gave birth to a bouncing baby girl. We all were surprised because we never expected such a miracle to happen. She had a complete baby.” Robert Davidson, one of Mercy’s friends, said that he concluded after seeing Mercy with a protruded tummy for three years that she had fibroid. So, “it came to me as a shock to learn that she delivered a bouncing baby girl.” For Chidimma Ibe, a neighbour: “She always complained to me that she had stomach pains all these period. She told me that she had fibroid and sometime, she will complain of different things. She was totally confused as to what her condition was. I’m very much surprised and happy she gave birth to a complete baby girl. It was truly a miracle. God was on her side. God is wonderful because all the concoctions she took were enough to kill the baby.” On the father of Baby Miracle, Mercy informed that they got separated on account of the ordeal that attended her pregnancy. “Friday is the name of my baby’s father. Actually, we are not married. He just proposed to me and I became pregnant for him. He knew about the pregnancy. He always gave me money for tests and scans but he got tired and left me after waiting for me for over a year without seeing any sign of a baby. I have no option than to go my own way,” she informed.

They are quoting the coordinator, National Information Centre, Mike Omeri. They also confirmed that the attackers came on motorcycle. A trader, Emeka, told PREMIUM TIMES they had got intelligence of a planned attack on the mall as far back April, shortly before the World Economic Forum. He said the owner of the facility stepped up security around the area. He explained that the stepped up security was apparently responsible for the 'throw-in' style adopted by the bombers.

A police officer, identified as Aurthur Okeke (ID. No.453255) has been accused of assaulting a heavily pregnant woman who was a passenger on a commercial bus in the bar beach area of Lagos. The officer, is said to have dragged the woman, reportedly in her 3rd trimester of pregnancy, out of the bus after which he allegedly beat her up and even tore her clothes. The incident was reported via Twitter by a user identified simply as Busayomi who said the victim is her sister-in-law. A fellow passenger recorded the altercation which occurred before the assault allegedly began.

Tragic: Psychiatric Patient Stabs Herbalist To Death In Ondo

AKURE — A 24-year-old psychiatric patient, Iijisakin Ayoola, has reportedly stabbed to death his 60-year-old traditional doctor, Alfa Iliasu Waheed, in Idanre, Ondo State. Consequently, the Police in Akure has detained the suspect. The suspect reportedly stabbed the traditional doctor in the neck with a broken bottle which caused his death. Vanguard gathered that the deceased before his death specialised in healing psychiatric patients. Sources said that the deceased who resided at 9, Isanwo Ijigbokin Street, Idanre was from Osun State. He was married to an Idanre woman before he met his untimely death in the hands of one of his patients. Vanguard learnt that the suspect, after stabbing the deceased also attempted to set the house ablaze before he was later apprehended. According to the sources the deceased, who had no premonition of the attack, was approached from behind by the suspect who drove the broken bottle into the neck of his doctor in his apartment. The shout for help from the deceased attracted his neighbours who rushed to the Police station in Alade‑Idanre Divisional Police Headquarters. The DPO, SP Martins Ohalete, reportedly dispatched a team to the scene of the crime where they met the deceased in a pool of his blood. Although he was rushed to the general hospital, he died before any treatment could be administered on him. The deceased, according to family source, has been buried according to Islamic rites. Police image maker, Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect escaped after committing the crime but was later arrested. Ogodo said the suspect was among the patients the deceased was treating for mental disorder. According to Ogodo, the suspect is presently being detained at the State Criminal Department(SCID) while detectives are probing the immediate cause of the death. Ogodo said: “We will take the suspect to a psychiatric hospital to ascertain his level of sanity before charging him to court because nobody has the right to take another man’s life in whatever situation.”

LAGOS— EmotionS ran high, yesterday, at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, following the startling confession of a 64-year‑old herbalist, on how he buried a 68-year‑old retired Customs officer and her 10-year‑old adopted daughter alive in a shallow grave behind his shrine in Ajuwon, Ogun State. fc The suspect identified as Alhaji Olatunji Azeez, who was paraded by the command’s boss, Umar Manko, showed no sign of remorse as he said he committed the act in order to prevent the victim from demanding N9 million he used to prepare concoction for her. Trouble started for the retired Customs officer, one Mrs Angela Kerry, who resided at New Oko‑Oba area of Lagos, following her inability to give birth. In her search for possible solution, she was reportedly introduced to the suspect who confessed to have carried out series of rituals and also prepared concoctions for her to no avail. Apparently disappointed, Kerry was said to have demanded the refund of N9 million earlier collected from her by the herbalist last month, consequent upon which he invited her to his shrine at 9, Wadoye Street, Ajuwon to collect the money. Unknown to Kerry, who went in company of her adopted daughter, the herbalist had a sinister motive up his sleeves. How mother, child were buried alive Narrating how he buried both mother and child alive, the suspect who claimed to have three wives and five children said: “She provoked me to anger. I did what I did because I considered her an enemy who was out to kill me if I did not act fast. “It all started five years ago when she was introduced to me by her friend, one Lizzy. She was attacked spiritually and I helped her out. She came again over a similar attack and I also prepared some concoction which saved her. She told me that her family members were after her and I said she needed to fortify herself. “Three years ago, she revealed that she has not been able to give birth and had not been pregnant for one day. I told her it would be impossible since she had reached menopause but she objected, saying many prophets had told her God could do it. “Along the line, she said she wanted to sell her property at Omole, that she wanted to travel abroad to be away from her family. After selling the property, I discovered so many pastors started coming around here to get a share from the money realised. In fact she told me that she had paid N15 million to some pastors already. “Then I told myself that if I did not act fast, these people will collect everything from her. I had to tell her to bring N9 million to prepare some concoction for her pregnancy, even though I knew it was impossible for her to get pregnant. “She gave me N9 million. But after nine months, she came back saying nothing happened and demanded a refund. That was where trouble started. I managed to pay her N 3.5 million and begged her to be patient for the balance. “Then she charged into my temple one Friday demanding that she should be paid that day. I told her I won’t pay her and that if she had gone to the hospital and the treatment failed could she have demanded a refund. She threatened to deal with me if I did not pay her, saying she would show me she was in the force. “I told myself that this is war because I remembered she once showed me a gun at her apartment. I knew it was not a mere threat because she said she would kill me and nothing would happen. That threat provoked me. I knew that when two people are fighting, the first to attack will emerge winner. The plot “So, I decided to act fast before she tarnished my image. I pacified her to come back next day for the money. When leaving, I told her not to come with the daughter. “After she left, I told myself I needed to act fast. I went to a building at the back of my shrine where I dug a hole. I spread a mat on the hole and laid a white cloth on it, exactly the way it looks in my shrine. “When she came next day, I told her to go inside the building that we needed to pray before we talk about the money. She asked if the prayer was for the pregnancy and I told her it was for fortification. “I warned her not to take her daughter along but she refused. I did not argue any further because I did not want my plan to fail. “On getting inside the building, I asked her to stand on the white cloth and immediately she did, she fell inside the hole and landed on her buttocks. All I heard when she fell was yeh! When she fell, I said I have seen the end of my enemy and I have gained victory. “The daughter did not say a word. She just stood watching. I had to cover the hole with over 40 buckets of sand. “After covering the hole, I asked myself what to do with the little girl. I left the room, locked it from outside. When I came back at about 6.30pm, I met her on the sand. I quickly removed my jacket and poured about 30 bucket of sand to cover her. Next day, I went to get two bricklayers to cement the place.” The arrest Describing the act as callous, the command boss explained that after committing the crime, the suspect took her Toyota Camry vehicle to a dealer’s workshop to sell. But the bubble burst when the victim’s relatives reported at New Oko‑Oba Police Station that Mrs Kerry was missing. Over 100 members of the Nigerian entertainment industry gathered on Monday in Lagos to strategise on ways and means of giving late singer, Kefee, a befitting burial. Some of the notable faces at the meeting were, Nikki Laoye, Tosin Martins, Emem Ema, Tee-Y Mix, DJ Gosporella, Wamilele, Princess, , Perry Martins, Praise Machine, Mudi, Righteousman, Nene Soul Diva, Victor Gospogroove, Gordons and representatives from Kefee’s family. Continue... Sammie noted that the death of Kefee has affected the Nigerian entertainment industry and the world over and not just the Gospel music community in Nigeria. "Kefee was a major contributor to the development of entertainment in Nigeria and the industry will be there for her even in death. We are going to bury her as a queen and it would be nice for us to work together to make her burial a grand affair. It would also be nice to use this opportunity to get our acts together as Gospel artists and entertainers in general because that is what Kefee would love,’’ he said. Also speaking, Tosin Martins, suggested that activities in honour of Kefee should extend beyond the immediate burial plans to include a more robust an annual memorial symposium and other events which promote the interests and passion of Kefee for posterity’s sake. He once again pleaded for the privacy of the family to be respected in these trying times. He observed that some of the stories written about Kefee since her death were mostly untrue and cited the reports of a pregnancy which didn’t exist and the story that her body had been flown home as very insensitive and mischievous. He also stressed that some reports that claimed that he was stranded in the U.S. and soliciting for financial help through a bank account were lies. Teddy said that, customarily, he would have to return home to Nigeria first, to be on ground to receive the body of his wife which would then follow afterwards. He said he was finalising the required paperwork before Kefee’s body could be flown from the U.S. to Nigeria and once those were done, more details of the burial plans would be released. Teddy said that Kefee’s family had requested that she be buried in their hometown, Okpara-Inland, Ethiope East local government, with a celebratory service in Sapele afterwards and that he was comfortable with that. Those, according to him, were the only definite arrangements for his wife’s burial so far. Kefee whose real name was Irikefe Don-Momoh (nee Obareki) was a well-liked Pop-Gospel artist who had been active in the entertainment industry for the past ten years. She was born on Feb. 5, 1980 in Sapele, Delta State and was known as the Branama Queen, in reference to her debut hit track and album, ‘Branama’. She also scored a hit with the track, ‘Kokoroko’, featuring Timaya and had four albums to her credit— ‘Branama’ (2003), ‘Branama 2’ (2005), ‘A Piece of Me’ (2009) and ‘Chorus Leader’ in 2013. Scores were feared dead as a bomb exploded on Monday afternoon, June 23, 2014 at the premises of School of Hygiene, BUK road, Kano. The high calibre improvised explosive device went off aroud 2pm at a time the school was in session. The blast appeared to come from a parking lot next to the provost’s office of the School of Hygiene, a post-secondary training school, said a teacher who requested anonymity.
