VANCOUVER, B.C. -- The CEO of the company that provides food and catering at Seattle Mariners games and was caught on camera abusing a dog has resigned, Centerplate announced Tuesday.

The video, which was originally aired on Global News in Canada, shows Desmond Hague kicking a dog and yanking on its collar. Hague, the CEO of Centerplate Inc., has admitted he's the man on the controversial video.

"We want to reiterate that we do not condone nor would we ever overlook the abuse of animals," Joe O'Donnell, chairman of the board of directors for Centerplate, said in a statement announcing Hague's resignation. "Following an extended review of the incident involving Mr. Hague, I'd like to apologize for the distress that this situation has caused to so many."

Centerplate's board of directors originally gave Hague an ultimatum last week: Donate $100,000 to a foundation to protect animals and complete 1,000 hours of community service, or be fired.

But public outcry was that the donation and community service were not enough and calls grew that demanded Hague be fired immediately. Chris Verros takes over as interim CEO of the company.

The Mariners are one of a number of professional and college sports teams that use Centerplate for their food service provider.

"Although we are extremely disappointed in Mr. Hague's actions, we do not believe that this incident represents the corporate philosophy of Centerplate," the team said in a statement last Tuesday when the allegations surfaced, "and we do not believe this should affect our long and successful relationship with the corporation."

The team announced Wednesday a portion of proceeds from all concession sales at Safeco Field during September would be donated to the Humane Society for Seattle/King County.
